Factors affecting Successful IVF

If you are considering IVF (in vitro fertilisation), then it is important that one is aware about the factors that may impact its success and may cause problem in your getting pregnant.

Age as a factor affecting successful IVF: One of the most important factors is age, the age impacts the quality of eggs that can be harvested for IVF procedures. Younger women have higher chances of IVF success, factors that reduce the chances of IVF success include being an older woman. IVF success rate (successful pregnancies leading to live birth)  for women under 35 who start an IVF cycle is 45 percent as compared to women over age 42 have a 4 percent success rate.

Previous pregnancies affecting successful IVF: Another important factor, if you have been able to get pregnant previously with the same partner that’s currently undergoing IVF treatment, there is a greater probability of IVF success.

Fertility problems and factors affecting successful IVF: There are some factors that tend to impact the success of IVF . The chance of IVF success is better if the cause of subfertility in the couple is tubal disease or male factor as opposed to unexplained subfertility. When women have high FSH levels which indicate a low ovarian reserve, this may reduce the chances of IVF success.  If both partners are subfertile there is lower chances for IVF success, factors such as the length of time you have been infertile is also important to consider. The chances of IVF success decrease with the amount of time a couple has been subfertile.

Donor eggs as factors affecting successful IVF: The quality of eggs is the biggest factor that determines the success of the IVF, making donor eggs significant consideration, especially if you are over 35-40. So, factors such as egg quality and age of donor are important and using donor eggs from younger women may increase the chances of pregnancy for women over 40 years of age.
Lifestyle habits as factors affecting Successful IVF: Another important factor that is relevant more in today’s age is the lifestyle choices we make.  Some of these choices that have an adverse impact on pregnancies or IVF pregnancies are:
  • Smoking is plain injurious to health and it decreases your chance of having a baby. During IVF smokers will require higher dosage of fertility drugs to stimulate their ovaries, they have lower implantation rates than non-smokers. Smokers may also need more IVF cycles and experience more failed fertilization cycles.
  • Women who are overweight have an increased risk of infertility as well as miscarriage.
Being overweight can hinder IVF success with fertility treatments than women of normal weight. Underweight women also have less success with IVF. Bottom line: aim to stay within a healthy weight range.

Fertility clinic as a key factors affecting Successful IVF: The clinic one chooses along with the fertility specialist play a very big role in the success of the IVF,
  • Success rate of live births through IVF of the clinic and the specialists.
  • Experience, Training and background of the specialist and IVF clinic personnel.
  • Types of patients accepted at the clinic, more specifically their age and fertility problem
  • The laboratory and the machinery in it.
  • The rate of patients pregnant with multiples (twins, triplets or more)
With the new technologies now available in healthcare, the rate of success of  IVF is on the rise, however it is recommended that when planning for IVF, one is aware of all factors and takes necessary step to improve their chances.
The more you learn about specific IVF success factors, the more control you will feel about high-tech treatments that help you get pregnant and start a family.

Symptoms, Treatment and Prevention of a Miscarriage

What is a miscarriage? We use the term “Miscarriage” when a pregnancy ends on its own, within the first twenty weeks of gestation. Most women experience discomfort during miscarriages. This can affect their mental and emotional well-being. Understanding the nature of miscarriages, the symptoms and prevention and possible treatment, can help women to assess this situation more medically and objectively. According to the studies conducted at American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), 10-25% of all clinically recognized pregnancies will end in miscarriage. Chemical pregnancies may account for 50-75% of those miscarriages, which occur shortly after implantation. This may result in bleeding, around the time of her expected period. In a chemical pregnancy, the woman may not even realize that she conceived. Fortunately, medical science has multiple options to help a woman have her own genetic baby even with a history of multiple miscarriages. In many cases, the reas
